Field Trip #20 – The Austin Zoo

The Austin Zoo is an interesting place. Far from a modern zoo, it’s really neat seeing the animals at close range. Noticeably, the animals are caged, as opposed to the modern trend of attempting to replicate their natural habitat. But it seems the motivation for the Austin Zoo is more financial limitations than a conscious decision to buck these trends. In fact, these animal have been either seized by law enforcement, rescued, or donated by owners who can no longer take care of them. In many ways, the Austin Zoo epitomized the spirit of our community.

The Austin Zoo
Welcome

Potbellied pig

Goats

Albino Rat Snake

Male Peafowl (or Peacock) on the move

Mountain Lion like those we saw warnings for at Big Bend National Park. Scary!

Galapagos tortoise

Parrot – very cleverly imitated what we said

Leopard – looked very dangerous

Tiger

The King of Beasts

Who feeds these animals?

Whatever they feed them, they look happy about it.

At least, I think that’s “happy”
